Sagicor Group Jamaica is looking for the ideal team member to join our Application Support & Development team in the position of:


Database Administrator



Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Performs Routine System Checks as per standards prescribed by the Database Administrator and or the Network Administrator to ensure proper functioning of all Business Systems
  • To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime exposure
  • To periodically review/update database auditing logs/log configuration to ensure the security and integrity of the data
  • Participates in ongoing planning, designing, installing and implementation of all database production, user acceptance testing and development environments
  • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of all databases to include rollout, upgrades and migrations.
  • Performs backups and restoration of Production, User Acceptance Testing and Development database environments
  • Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
  • Work with the infrastructure team to ensure that the associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases, in order to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of all development environments
  • Responds to technical user needs related to database issues daily.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper source control and patch management maintenance for all production databases
  • Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs.
  • Assists with various project implementation and User Acceptance Testing processes.
  • Submits established daily and weekly status reports (Issues log) to the Database Administrator and Banking Applications Manager.
  • Provides first tier support for all 24/7 systems during the week.
  • Evaluates the performance of team members against the unit’s objectives to ensure that they are appraised and assessed in accordance with agreed standards, procedures and timetables where applicable.
  • Participates and provides leadership to the positions supervised through use of timely and effective communication, guidance and support


Qualifications/ Specialized Skills/ Competencies


  • Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent from an accredited tertiary institution
  • Training in all the following: IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Database Administration
  • Linux Red Hat Administration Training
  • AIX Administration Training
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Certified in at least one of the following: IBM DB2, Oracle or Microsoft SQL Database Administration
  • Oracle 10G to Oracle 12C database architecture
  • MS-SQL 2008 to MS-SQL 2017 database architecture
  • DB2 and/or Informix database architecture
  • Experience in structured reviews, software testing, and testing tools
  • Proficient in System Development Life Cycle methodologies
  • Experience in application systems integration of average complexity
  • Demonstrated ability for balancing project assignments together with ongoing problem resolution/change requests
  • Exposure to networks, databases, operating systems, hardware and other IT environmental components for mainframe, midrange and PC based systems.
