Chief Executive Officers are asked to invite applications from suitably  qualified  persons  to fill the following vacant  posts in the St. Thomas  Municipal Corporation:

Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Works Superintendent is responsible for the general overseeing of the Municipal Corporation's Minor Water Systems.

Key Responsibilities

},>       Responsible  for the day to day management  and supervision of the Minor Water Supply

Department of the Corporation;

},>      Manages the activities of the Plumbers, Assistant Plumbers and Chlorine Operators;

},>      Ensures the procurement of materials required to maintain water supplies and for operation of the Department;

},>      Prepares monthly reports on the Water Supply Systems;

},>      Ensures that water bills are prepared and distributed on a monthly basis;

},>      Ensures   that  prompt   collections   of  water  rates   from   customers   connected   to  the

Corporation's Minor Water Supply Systems;

},>      Investigates applications for water supply and make appropriate recommendations;

},>      Ensures that customers get continuous supply of potable water;

},>      Visits entombments  and catchments to observe general  conditions of these facilities  and take corrective actions where necessary;

},>      Attends to system breakdowns  by assessing the problems  and making arrangements  for trucking of water if necessary;

},>      Ensures that water trucks are routed to drought-stricken  areas; 

�   Redeploys department resources as the need arises;

�   Prepares  estimates  for   contracts,  e.g.  Extension   of  pipelines   and  verify  satisfactory

completion; and                                                 ;

�   Liaises with other Ministries,  Agencies  and Departments  regarding  minor water  supply


Key Competencies

�   Good oral and written communication  skills;

�   Tact and ability to get along with others;

�   Excellent interpersonal skills;

�   Good negotiation skills;

�   Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel PowerPoint);

�    Sound knowledge  of Government  Procurement  Guidelines and Financial  Administration

and Audit Act;

�   Good time management  skills; and

�   Fair knowledge of roles and functions of all Departments of the Corporation;

Required Experience & Qualifications

�   Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution

with two (2) years' experience in Water Systems Operation.


�   Five (5) CXC subjects inclusive of English A and a Science subject, respectively, with at

least five (5) years'  experience in Water Systems Operations.


�    Certificate in Supervisory Management.
