The High Commission of Canada to Jamaica is soliciting applications for Program Support positions in the Migration Section.

Summary of duties

Under general supervision, and working as part of a team, provides a variety of clerical support services to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) operations.   Accesses departmental information systems to create applications, record and review information for the processing of applications.  Exercises initiative in seeking out information to complete files or tasks.   Responds to service requests from clientele and performs other duties as required.

Area of selection/Eligibility

This competition is open to all people who have the right to legally reside and work in Jamaica, who meet all of the essential qualifications and employment conditions and whose applications are received before the closing date.

Essential qualifications 

To be screened into this competition, applicants must clearly and explicitly demonstrate in both their CV and covering letter that they meet the essential qualifications on education, language and experience criteria listed. Only candidates who meet the language, experience and education essential qualifications will be invited for assessment.


  • Minimum of a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution (original of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the process).


  • Fluency in English (oral & written)


  • Recent experience* providing general administrative support in a professional office environment.
  • Recent experience* using computer software including e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Recent experience* answering client enquiries or dealing directly with the public.

*Recent experience is defined as a minimum of 2 years within the last 3 years.


  • Knowledge of standard office procedures & practices (filing correspondence, responding to routine inquiries; managing calendars and schedules; bookings; dispatching and receiving items, maintaining supplies and inventories, etc.)

Asset qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write and understand and/or communicate in French
  • Experience working with the Global Case Management System (GCMS)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Immigration policy, procedures and programs

Operational requirements

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime (evenings/weekends) on short notice as required. 

Conditions of employment

  • Ability to obtain and retain a Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability security screening.
