Applications are invited from suitably qualified members of staff for the position of Senior Economist I, Research and Economic Programming Division. Reporting to the Senior Director, Research and Economic Programming Divsion, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Contributing to the formulation of work team objectives in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Department.
  2. Assisting in the development of work plans and the identification of areas for improvements in efficiency and effectiveness.  
  3. Assisting in the planning and coordinating as well as supervising and undertaking research into issues relating to monetary policy, inflation dynamics and the monetary transmission mechanism. 
  4. Undertaking the analysis of macroeconomic performance and trends, including trends in the consumer price index and core inflation.
  5. Analyzing the interrelationships between the various sectors of the economy as well as the international environment.  
  6. Providing advice on macroeconomic and monetary policy issues such as the effects of monetary policy on the economy.
  7. Providing advice on economic modeling and forecasting. 
  8. Developing, implementing and maintaining the Bank’s main macro-econometric models and forecasting tools.
  9. Providing short-term, medium- and long-term forecasts and analysis of inflation and the main macroeconomic variables. 
  10. Providing simulations of the impact of prospective monetary policy actions on the economy. 
  11. Participating as a team member in information sharing and information   gathering interventions with local and international organizations.
  12.  Representing the Bank at local and international conferences and seminars.



Postgraduate Degree in Economics with 3-4 years  experience in Applied Economics or Econometrics with at least 1 published paper.


Demonstrated skills in computer programming, particularly in the use of mathematical or econometric software programmes such as; RATS, Matlab or Eviews would be advantageous.


The incumbent should have:

  • Sound knowledge of macroeconomic theory and econometrics.
  • Demonstrated mastery of applied econometrics and economics. 
  • Sound knowledge of research design and methodologies.  
  • Excellent programming skills and knowledge of statistical software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.  
  • Good leadership, supervisory and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure.


The incumbent will be:

  • Exposed to highly confidential information. 
  • Required to demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Exposed to long periods of concentration on written material containing exacting details.
  • Required to work beyond normal working hours as the need arises to meet stipulated deadlines.
