Applications are invited from suitably qualified professionals to resource the position of Senior Economic Statistician, Statistics Department, Research and Economic Programming Division. Reporting to the Head  Statistics Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Ensuring economic and financial data prepared, compiled and disseminated consistently adheres to the international benchmarking standards of the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS), Monetary and Financial Statistics Manual (MFSM), Monetary and Financial Statistics Compilation Guide (MFSC).
  2. Safeguarding data integrity and quality of new statistics with regard to consistency, completeness, accuracy and precision in keeping with established quality standards of the EIP Department.
  3. Participating in the development of the policies, procedures and the work programme for the production and dissemination of economic and financial data.    
  4. Attending to all matters related to the Special Data Dissemination Standard by ensuring compliance with the standard and acting as the IMF’s Chief Desk Correspondent for the Section.
  5. Supervising and participating in research projects of an applied statistical nature to inform monetary policy and macro-financial policy and heighten public awareness.
  6. Supervising and participating in the monetary and financial data collection, compilation, preparation and dissemination including broad monetary aggregates, the Net International Reserves (NIR) and Base Money as prescribed by the MFSM and the MFSG.
  7. Participating in the development and maintenance of a statistical code of conduct for the Bank’s data collection and compilation process and ensuring adherence to the principles of the code.
  8. Supervising and participating in the (i) timely preparation, updating and revision of SDDS metadata and methodological notes for domestic financial and the external sectors (ii) timely updating and revision of economic data on the Bank’s website (iii) maintenance of the National Summary Data Page (NSDP) for Jamaica (iv) updating and publishing the Advanced Release Calendar (ARC) for Jamaica.
  9. Supervising and participating in the development and implementation of national surveys for the collection of financial and economic data and managing the interface with data providers, working towards improving the frequency and content of survey data. 
  10. Supervising and providing analytical support to Statisticians to improve the quality of output in the Section.
  11. Guiding Statisticians in the use of methodologies, tools and estimation techniques required for the delivery of outputs and achieving the objectives of the Section.
  12. Advising Economists and researchers of the REPD on nomenclature, sources, uses, and limitations of the economic and financial statistics disseminated by the Department.
  13. Supervising and coordinating the on-going development and maintenance of comprehensive analysis charts on the Jamaican economy and financial markets inclusive of charts for the real, fiscal and financial sectors and charts tabled at Monetary Policy Committee meetings.
  14. Coordinating the operations of the Information Help-Desk, including the receipt, prioritization, documentation and dissemination of data and information to requesting institutions and individuals. 
  15. Ensuring the timely updating of the Bank of Jamaica’s website with appropriate statistics.


Postgraduate Degree in Economics/Finance/Statistics or other related discipline plus three (3) years experience in economic and/or financial analysis. 


Undergraduate Degree in Economics/Finance/Statistics or other related discipline plus four (4) years related experience economic and/or financial analysis.

Certification in Money & Financial Statistics would be an asset


  • Thorough knowledge of monetary and macro-financial statistics, macro and micro economics.
  • Thorough knowledge of economic and financial analysis.
  • Detailed knowledge of the sources of statistical data collection/survey methods.
  • Sound knowledge of research techniques/methods.
  • Excellent graphical skills across various electronic platforms.
  • Sound knowledge of Macroeconomic Accounting Framework: the System of National Accounts (SNA), Monetary and Financial Statistics, Government Financial Statistics (GFS) and Balance of Payments Accounting.
  • In-Depth knowledge of international data dissemination standards and systems (SDDS and GDDS).
  • Sound knowledge in Monetary and  Financial Statistics Manual, Money and Financial Statistics Compilation.
  • Exposure to IMF/CARTAC training in Monetary and Financial Statistics.
  • Sound knowledge of BOJ Act, banking laws, and other  legislation that affects the Bank’s operations.
  • Strong managerial, supervisory and human relations skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: oral and written.
